Every mother-to-be, while still pregnant, wonders what to pack in the bag she will take with her to the hospital when "that moment" comes. Due to the limited amount of luggage that a hospital room will accommodate, you need to pack only the essentials and necessities. We have compiled a list of the most necessary ones. Most of these can be delivered to the hospital after the birth, but there is one important item that you need to have with you right away. Which one?
A very important part of the layette is all the documentation of the current pregnancy, the birth plan and, of course, the ID card. A phone with a charger should also be high on your list. Plus a book, favorite snacks and a few bottles of mineral water.
What else should every Mom have in her layette? (for an average 3-day stay)
For yourself
-
Three or four nightgowns- they are better and more comfortable than normal pajamas, because you don’t have to take off your pants when examining, preferably unbuttoned with buttons for convenient breastfeeding
-
Socks, underwear, 2 nursing bras and breast pads
-
5 pairs of postpartum panties, preferably mesh
-
Flip-flops- for showers, and also so that you don’t go barefoot in the hospital (preferably rubber ones, so that you can wash them thoroughly afterwards)
-
Birth pads (20 pieces) and postpartum pads (25-30 pieces)-many hospitals provide all hygiene products, but it’s always a good idea to have a supply just in case
-
Cosmetics such as shower gel, shampoo, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste
-
Custom body and hand towel
For the little one
-
Clothes, 3-4 pieces each: bodysuits, caps, pajamas and socks
-
Blanket and horn, because newborns get cold very quickly!
-
A pack of wet wipes
-
10 tetra diapers- great for nursing
-
Pampers in the smallest size (15 pieces)
-
Bottle, should it turn out that the baby needs to be fed
A car seat or clothes for the newborn (depending on the time of year) for going home can be provided only upon discharge from the hospital.
All of the things mentioned in the list above can be brought by someone close to you even after the birth. However, there is something that the mother must have with her at the delivery party.
If you have decided to bank your cord blood, then in addition to hygiene products, clothes for you and your little one, snacks and toiletries, it is important to remember that as a mom you must have your collection kit when you are admitted to the hospital, which Parents receive when they sign the contract. It will ensure that the cord blood is properly secured during delivery and ready for transport to the laboratory and then to a pre-selected bank: a family bank such as PBKM or a public one for unrelated recipients.
It is also good to know that all belongings after returning from the hospital should be washed at a high temperature to destroy possible germs and bacteria. It is better not to take something to the ward that cannot be washed later, such as mascots or rattles. The time to play with the toddler will come at home.
It is better to prepare calmly in advance for such an important day as the day of delivery and be ready for any eventuality. Remember that cord blood can be collected only once in a lifetime.
