Pain complaints, especially those occurring during pregnancy, cause concern. Pain in the belly button area during pregnancy can have various causes, from harmless to those requiring medical intervention. Find out what causes belly button pain in pregnancy and when to go to the hospital immediately.

Navel pain in pregnancy- causes

Abdominal pain during pregnancy can have various causes. They are most often associated with the uterus growing with the baby and stretching the abdominal skin. This can cause an unpleasant sensation of pain in the lower abdominal area. However, navel pain in pregnancy can be a symptom of more serious conditions. Among those mentioned are. appendicitis. Most often the pain begins in the umbilical region and migrates to the right iliac fossa. In more advanced pregnancy, the location of pain in cases of appendicitis changes due to the significant size of the uterus, which models the position of other organs in the abdominal cavity. Rapid diagnosis in this situation can be much more difficult. Toward the end of pregnancy, the navel in many moms-to-be becomes protuberant, which can also cause discomfort and unpleasant pain.

Another possible cause of belly button pain in pregnancy is an umbilical hernia. It is usually due to weakening of the tissues that make up the abdominal walls. The pain may also be accompanied by vomiting. In such a situation, it is necessary to visit the hospital to drain the hernia. In most cases, surgeons manage to do this without surgery. However, if a hernia becomes entrapped, surgery may be necessary.
