The diet of a mother-to-be should provide all the necessary nutrients. Unfortunately, a lot of myths related to the nutrition of a pregnant woman still persist in public opinion. One of them is the claim that raspberries are forbidden during pregnancy. Do raspberries in pregnancy cause miscarriage? What effect is attributed to raspberry infusion before childbirth?

Raspberries during pregnancy-can you eat them?

The myth associated with not eating raspberries during pregnancy has no scientific evidence. There are no available studies showing their negative effects on the pregnant woman or the developing child.

Raspberries are worth reaching for during pregnancy because of their nutritional value. They can be consumed both in raw form and in the form of raspberry juice, recommended as a home remedy for fighting cold symptoms. When reaching for raspberry jam, moms-to-be should choose products with the lowest possible sugar content.

Raspberries during pregnancy can be eaten if they are washed and contain no signs of mold. Even one spoiled raspberry in a package precludes eating the others. Besides, it is better to buy raspberries and other fruits from reliable suppliers, preferably those whose products are fertilized with chemicals as little as possible.

Raspberries in pregnancy- infusion of raspberry leaves

An infusion of raspberry leaves is recommended for women at the end of pregnancy to speed up labor or facilitate its progress. However, there is no conclusive evidence of such an effect of the brew. Nevertheless, it is discouraged for women with undelivered pregnancies so as not to cause preterm labor. It is worth asking your gynecologist or midwife if you want to reach for raspberry leaf infusion or any other herbal tea during pregnancy.

Some say that the effect of raspberry infusion may have a tonic effect and improve blood flow in the uterus. As a result, it strengthens and makes the uterine muscle more flexible, which can trigger or intensify contractions.

What fruits to eat during pregnancy?

A properly balanced diet for a mother-to-be should include fruits and vegetables, but it is the latter that a pregnant woman should consume more of. Fruits should be present in about 2-3 meals a day. Pregnant women are especially recommended avocados, which provide protein and folic acid. Dried fruits, such as figs and prunes, contain large amounts of fiber, which can provide relief from pregnancy ailments such as constipation. Besides, especially in cases of anemia, fruits containing vitamin C-oranges or currants-are recommended. This is because they increase the absorption of iron.
