The period of pregnancy is a time of many changes in the body of the mother-to-be. In addition to providing the best possible conditions for the baby's development, the body is also preparing for childbirth. One of the symptoms of this type of action is the dilation of the pubic conjunctiva, which usually occurs in III. trimester of pregnancy. Find out what are the symptoms and treatment of pubic conjunctival distention.

What is a divergence of the pubic conjunctiva

Dilation of the pubic conjunctiva occurs quite often during pregnancy. Most often it is the result of hormones such as relaxin, which is responsible for loosening joints and ligaments during pregnancy to facilitate the passage of the baby through the birth canal during delivery. “A side effect” of the hormone is the effect on the pubic conjunctiva and surrounding ligaments. Symptoms can be exacerbated by a growing belly and a change in the center of gravity in the mother-to-be’s body.

Dissection of the pubic conjunctiva – symptoms

The typical symptom of a diastasis pubis is pain throughout the pelvic girdle and around the conjunctiva. The discomfort can radiate to the buttocks and lower extremities. They are most often aggravated after prolonged standing. Pain also occurs when climbing stairs or walking faster. Greater discomfort is usually experienced by those women who were less active before pregnancy.

Dissection of the pubic symphysis in pregnancy – treatment

The first step for pain complaints is a proper diagnosis. It is most often placed by a doctor or physiotherapist experienced in working with pregnant women. There is no need for imaging studies. To reduce discomfort, specific exercises and rehabilitation with a physiotherapist are advisable. In addition, when the pain is severe, you can reach for painkillers (in pregnancy it is mainly Paracetamol). In some situations, a special belt can be used, but this should not be treatment 1. selection.

Dissection of the pubic conjunctiva and childbirth

Dissection of the pubic conjunctiva in pregnancy is not an indication for a cesarean section. Most women give birth by natural means, and the discomfort disappears a few days after delivery. If the gap is large, an orthopedic doctor’s opinion may be needed.

After the diagnosis of a diastasis pubis and the onset of pain, it is worth seeing a physiotherapist. By doing the right exercises, you can reduce symptoms and better prepare for childbirth.
