Many women use various types of cosmetic procedures on a daily basis. Since pregnancy is a unique condition, it is always important to ascertain whether a particular procedure can be safely performed on a pregnant woman. What cosmetic treatments are recommended during pregnancy?

Cosmetic treatments during pregnancy-are they safe?

Cosmetic procedures have become a daily occurrence for many women. Regular visits to the hairdresser or beautician come as no surprise to anyone. However, it is important to remember that during pregnancy not everything that was previously routine is safe. Until a while ago, the principle of “the less the better” was applied and moms-to-be were advised against, for example, dying their hair. It is now known that modern styling products contain much less ammonia. This also makes their smell less distinctive. The same is true for hybrid nails, which have become very popular in recent years. It has not been proven that the performance of the so-called “”new” products. Hybrids were harmful during pregnancy. Of course, another issue is the hygiene and safety conditions in the salons we go to. During pregnancy, very great attention should be paid to proper sterilization and disinfection of equipment. For this reason, treatments that compromise tissue continuity, such as tattooing or needle mesotherapy or botox, are not allowed during pregnancy. As for hair removal, it is better to forgo laser hair removal in favor of other methods for the duration of pregnancy. The negative effects of the laser on pregnancy have not been conclusively proven, and research on the subject is still ongoing.

Cosmetic treatment during pregnancy-which are prohibited?

There is a group of cosmetic procedures that are prohibited during pregnancy. These include all treatments with vitamin A derivatives, mainly retinol and tretinoin. Retinoids are considered teratogens. Moms-to-be are also advised against cosmetic procedures that use high temperatures. Treatments with cosmetics that cause allergies in the pregnant woman should also be avoided. Cosmetics that do not have intense fragrances are also recommended. An expectant mother should always inform the practitioner that she is expecting a baby before a cosmetic procedure.

What cosmetic treatments are recommended during pregnancy?

Today, many cosmetic treatments are aimed directly at the group of moms-to-be. Among them, the most commonly mentioned are those that firm the skin, reduce the appearance of stretch marks, and relaxation, such as special massages. These treatments are performed by experienced people who work with pregnant women on a daily basis and can advise which treatment is safe. Ideally, always ask the treating physician’s opinion and the presence of any contraindications before using the treatments.
