What is Zinnat?

Zinnat is the trade name of a medicinal product containing the antibiotic cefuroxime. The compound is classified as a cephalosporin II. generations. These are beta-lactam antibiotics that kill bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of their cell wall. Cefuroxime is active against both gram-positive bacteria, such as streptococci, and gram-negative bacteria, which include Escherichia coli.  Zinnat, on the other hand, is not effective against atypical bacteria, such as mycoplasmas, as they do not have a cell wall.

Cefuroxime has a relatively broad spectrum of action. For this reason, it is used, among other things. IN CASE:

• Respiratory tract infections
• Urinary tract infections
• Middle ear infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections

Is Zinnat safe to use during pregnancy?

Zinnat, or more specifically cefuroxime, is classified as Category B in terms of its safety for use during pregnancy. This means that human control studies have not been conducted, but animal tests have not shown potentially harmful effects on the developing fetus. Since medical experiments on pregnant women are prohibited, Category B is the safest possible category of drugs. For this reason, Zinnat is used for pregnant women when there are indications for antibiotic therapy and the use of a cephalosporin drug may have potential clinical benefits.

What should be kept in mind during antibiotic therapy?

Antibiotics are a group of drugs that should be used only in certain clinical situations. Its use is associated with various potential complications and weakening of the body. For this reason, it is worth remembering to follow a few rules for using Zinnat and other antibiotics during pregnancy: 

• When taking an antibiotic, always take an oral and vaginal probiotic at the same time, which will take care of rebuilding the bacterial flora of the intestine and vagina.
• Always take the antibiotic as prescribed by your doctor. The antibiotic should not be discontinued early due to an improvement in health as this risks developing strains of bacteria resistant to the antibiotic.
• Never use an antibiotic on your own without first consulting your doctor.

It is important to remember that a high fever or an untreated urinary tract infection can carry serious consequences for the course of pregnancy. Thus, safe antibiotics should not be abandoned if there are indications for their use.
