One of them is the first trimester ultrasound, or so-called genetic ultrasound. It is often performed in conjunction with the PAPP-A test as a composite test. With the first trimester ultrasound, the risk of birth defects such as Down syndrome or the risk of pre-eclampsia is estimated. In addition, it is evaluated, among other things. fetal anatomy.

Other mandatory tests in the first trimester

During the first trimester of pregnancy, in addition to genetic ultrasound and blood tests, other tests should also be performed, including, for example, a general urine test. As with morphology, this test is recommended to be performed every 4 weeks during pregnancy. According to the recommendations, the gynecologist should also recommend a dental check-up at the beginning of pregnancy, as well as a cytological examination if it has not taken place in the past 6 months.
