In the case of fungal infections, antifungal treatment is used, while if the symptoms are caused by bacteria, it is necessary to reach for an antibiotic such as metronidazole. Oral or topical treatment is possible, and the gynecologist decides on the choice.

Most often, intimate infections in pregnancy do not cause serious complications, and the course is mild. However, there are reports related to the possible infection of the baby being in the uterine cavity. It occurs through the placenta or following an amniocentesis. The symptoms of congenital candidiasis in newborns are skin lesions of the head, hands and feet. If there is aspiration of infectious material, the child may develop pneumonia.
